Membership Benefits
Aboriginal Business Members benefit from a full voting membership including the following:
Professional Development
- PSABA offers a broad base of training courses, professional development workshops and events.
Networking
- PSABA provides a forum for Aboriginal firms to develop opportunities for partnerships, joint ventures, strategic alliances, subcontracting and business network development.
Advocacy
- PSABA works with public sector buyers to promote the capabilities of Aboriginal firms.
- PSABA provides public sector buyers with information about the advantages of Aboriginal procurement programs.
Membership Structure:
PSABA welcomes Aboriginal business owners as Members; public and private sector organizations as Associate Members.
Voting Membership:
To qualify as a voting member a business must meet the requirements of
the Federal Treasury Board policy, Procurement Strategy for Aboriginal
Business, as interpreted by the Department of Indian and Northern
Affairs.
- At least 51% of the firm must be owned and controlled by Aboriginal owner (s) (Status, Non-Status, Metis or Inuit).
- If the business has 6 or more full time employees, at least 1/3 must be Aboriginal.
- If the business is a joint venture or consortium, then 51% of the partnership must be controlled by an Aboriginal business as defined above.
- As well, if the partnership has 6 or more staff, 1/3 must be Aboriginal.
An Aboriginal business who qualifies as a voting member will retain full voting and decision making powers.
Associate Membership:
- Associate memberships are extended to Canadian private and public sector organizations working with Aboriginal business. Associate members have a solid reputation for taking a leadership role in supporting Aboriginal economic development initiatives.
- Associate members will have an opportunity to increase their market exposure through the PSABA member network.
